What to do?
As mentioned before, my goal is to become conversant (hopefully proficient!) in web technologies. I’ve a lot to learn and understand. For me the best way to learn has always been by doing. Getting stuck in , making mistakes and learning from them.
From surfing around, there seems to be 2 main ways of building websites :
- Do everything yourself, code all the HTML, Javascript, PHP, CGI, FLASH, FLEX or whatever and build it or
- Use a “CMS” Content Management System.
Think I’ll do both! A CMS first as its probably less work as all the infrastructure is in place and I’ll just need to concentrate on content and the visual aspects of the website. Then when happy with the content, look & feel etc move to doing the same or simlar website but this time for me to provide all of the infrastructure.
Now I just need an idea for a website!
Also need to have a look around at what CMSs are available/useful. Will need to be Open Source as I sure ain’t paying for one. More surfing to be done… back later!
