ImageSlideShow for Joomla! 1.5.x

May 13, 2008 · Filed Under ImageSlideshow

ImageSlideShow is now feature complete. Well, it is as complete as I’m going to make it for the moment.

It can be downloaded from here.

What is ImageSlideShow?

ImageSlideShow is a simple Joomla! module written in PHP and Javascript. The module displays a sequence of images from a specified directory either in order or in a random order. The slideshow has a simple transition between each image, the timing of which can be specified. ImageSlideShow also has the ability to create “thumbnail” versions of the images and to use them in the slideshow.

It is/was a project for me to learn PHP & JavaScript. Also proved useful in learning the framework behind Joomla 1.5 and generally how programming for the “web” world differs from my normal C# development efforts.

Perfect replacement for Random Image in Joomla 1.5 (native). Installs and works perfectly. One of those little gems that should be included in Joomla as a standard. The “links” option (missing in Random Image) is cool too. I didn’t try the resize since I don’t like the primitive resizing on my server. Photoshop has much better algorithms.

    Hi,

and thx 4 the module! Nice work!

But I’ve got a little bug: png’s with transparent background are shown with a black background instead of transparancy (but only with IE). If you want to, I’ll mail you the url.

I hit an oddity for some reason? IE 7 won’t render the ImageSlideShow on my site for some reason, even though FF 2 is perfectly fine? An image loads, then drops down below the edges of defioned area (in the template), so that it appears to hide a portion of it? I assumed it was an incompatibility with the template perhaps, but switching to a different module for that same location works fine? Thanks for the hard work. I really like ISS and would much prefer to use it for it’s simplicity and effectiveness. Any thoughts???

I’m trying to get this running in the banner area of my joomla site, however it appears the images are left aligned with the center of the page in FF on Mac, looks fine in Safari. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Briask. I just recently stared using your module and so far its been doing an excellent job, so thank you for that.
I’m having trouble getting my site to conform as valid xhtml. I tried it on your demo site with the same result. Seems to be a call to the css outside the head of the document.
    Thanks again
